美民、村及草 ( bluegrass ) 曲音家John Hartford，不擅演奏小提琴及班琴，同也以的歌和特的唱腔著。John Hartford自首《Gentle On My Mind》的感是自於影《瓦哥生》，而且是看完影片後在30分就完成了歌。1967，此曲著Hartford的第二《Earthwoeds & Music》一起推出，成普普，引起了歌手Glen Campbell的注意。

Glen Campbell也在1967翻唱此曲，看成也不怎，在村和排行榜只分30及62名。但此曲在1968拿下了4座葛美：

2014，美村音The Band Perry，Glen Campbell的影《Glen Campbell：I'll Be Me》唱此曲的影原，所的版本，在2015他得了一座「最佳村二重唱或」的葛美。
