此曲由Myra Smith和Margaret Lewis位女生所合，首由女歌手Margaret Whiting於1967唱行，只得流行榜108名。之後又有多位男女歌手翻唱，唯成不。

1974，墨裔美籍歌手Freddy Fender遇到了唱片作人Huey P. Meaux，邀他在已好的音上唱，是一首之前至少有20人已翻唱、而成最好的33名的《Before the Next Teardrop Falls》，Freddy以的方式完成曲，曲於1975年初行，得告示牌流行榜及村榜的料冠，不易。而此首《I Almost Called Your Name》也收在中，唱法、曲等也雷同，想非是中定的主打歌曲，而未另行曲。
歌曲述的是新交的女友太像，在要密差叫成的名字，言之就是忘情人。叫情人名字的情似乎不出在老外的影片中 ( 像是昏迷 )，台我是不太相信容易搞混，除非是女朋友太多或是喝酒醉了。
以下另同中由Freddy自己所，原於1959行，亦於此次重新唱的《Wasted Days and Wasted Nights》，也在村榜得冠，在流行榜是第8名。
