美村魂歌手Billy Joe Royal大在14就好友兼常他伴奏的吉他手Joe South，1964，Royal了一首由South所的《Down in the Boondocks》的示，有人，曲原本欲向歌手Gene Pitney推，但遭到Royal的唱片公司的否 ( 曲人想起Pitney性的歌，且其 1963的曲《Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa》有分相似。) 1965，Royal行首曲 ( 自己也承有些想目混珠 )，果然也如其所，得告示牌流行榜的第9名，也於了Royal入榜前40名的音之路。

Billy Joe Royal出道受了黑人魂歌手Sam Cooke等的影，除了1965的2首歌外，在流行榜一直未能有好成表，自80年代起，重塑自己「村歌手」，1985果然始打村榜前10。此首《Out of Sight and on My Mind》，1988在村榜得第10名，成也算不差。歌曲的是，方所有清空了，位老兄仍割不下，期盼某某地仍能相遇，而往的也一直留存心底。
1967，Royal了Joe South的另首《Rose Garden》，1968，South自己也唱，但人的版本在排行榜上均是毫息。1970，女歌手Lynn Anderson的翻唱版，竟然在多家地流行或村排行榜得冠，替Anderson得了一座年度「最佳村女歌手」的葛美。情除了高也免有堪。好的是，South 在稍早的1969，以Sitar ( 西塔琴 ) 伴奏的一首《Game People Play》，然在流行榜只得第12名，替他得了「最佳代歌曲」和「年度最佳歌曲」的座葛美。
