1965，美村歌手/曲作者Jerry Jeff Walker在杯下肚後，始胡言女性，因此被了良的警局所。在牢中，遇到了位流浪街的舞者，述自己和他的狗的故事，位白人老兄了警察身分，自己Mr. Bojangles ( 一般所熟知的Mr. Bojangles其是位黑人踢踏舞人Bill “Bojangles” Robinson，1878---1949。 )。Walker因故事得到感而成此首《Mr. Bojangles》，收在他1968行的同名中，曲得告示牌100排行榜的第77名。

翻唱此曲的知名歌手多，像是Sammy Davis Jr. ( 小山姆戴斯，「鼠」的成。)、Bob Dylan、Harry Nelson、Neil Diamond、John Denver……等等，而翻唱成最好的，是Nitty Gritty Dirt Band的版本，在1971得告示牌100排行榜第9名。由於歌太，各演唱者或有修整。

Jerry Jeff Walker至2018仍有行，2020因咽喉癌世，享年78，而此首《Mr. Bojangles》仍其生最知名的代表作。
