Neil Diamond，1941出生於美一太家庭。16就歌生了趣，後就大科，眼看要了，而有一音行商「Sunbeam」提供他一16的歌工作，Diamond 因此中了。事後Diamond ：『要不是了死的歌的事，我在可能已是生了。』

1962，Diamond初啼，和高中同Jack Parker以二重唱的合，行了曲，但均告失。同年稍晚，DiamondColumbia唱片公司成唱歌手，次年1963行了一曲《At Night》，然Billboard予佳的，但最後仍未能入榜，Columbia也因此其解，Diamond只得再回到以歌主的生活。

1965，Diamond所的一首《Sunday and Me》，於打排行榜前20名，也使他了成功歌者的行列。接著他The Monkees所的《I'm a Believer》及《A little Bit Me, A Little Bit You》等，亦成大曲。之後甚至包含王Elvis Presley、Mark Lindsay ( Paul Revere & The Riders的主唱 )、LuLu、Cliff Richard等大牌歌星，都翻唱他所的歌。

1966，Neil Diamond和Bang唱片公司成交易，行的首支曲即是此首之前由他自己所的《Solitary Man》( 孤的人 )，不打了排行榜 ( # 55 )，也成了曲，於使得Neil Diamond由之前的曲作家，也有了被可的歌手身份。

此曲曾被多位著名歌手翻唱。2000年，村歌手Johnny Cash的翻唱版，他得了一座「最佳村男歌手」的葛美。
