1959，的Buddy Holly和另位歌手因作秀，而所搭乘的小失事，此即著名的「The Day the music died」。眼看定在明尼州Moorhead的表演要天窗，地的台立即播出需要替的消息。年15的Bobby Vee才成了他的The Shadows，自告勇替，未料真的得了令人的。而且，次的演出算是成功，Bobby Vee也自此展了他的歌唱之途。

然地，Bobby VeeBuddy Holly是十分感念的。他在同年行的首支曲《Suzie Baby》，就是在向Holly的《Paggy Sue》(1958) 致意。曲然只成地方性的曲，引起了另家唱片公司Liberty的注意而他下，致使得Bobby Vee後的展翅高，此後按下不表。初的Bobby Vee然只是小小牌的歌手，Bob Dylan有一段遇。Bob Dylan曾在Bobby Vee的The Shadows中琴 ( Dylan是用Robert Allen Zimmerman的名字 )，後由於Vee付不起薪，只得Dylan。Dylan成民歌手，Vee也成偶像歌手，人曾在某唱片行一次，再就30年都面，唯人都十分珍惜段情。2013，Dylan在明尼演唱，其中就唱了Vee年的首《Suzie Baby》，由Dylan在唱曲前的致中，Vee就坐在席中。不，Vee自2011起就得了阿海默症，不知他是否得段往？( Vee於2016世，享年73。)

Bobby Vee入Liberty唱片公司後，他的作人替他找歌，到了由Carole King所唱此首《Take Good Care of My Baby》的示後，出版商Don Kirshner表示，希望此曲交由Bobby Vee唱，但信在歌曲始前加上「序曲」。之後Carole King碰面，「序曲」的歌也被完成。Bobby Vee的版本於1961推出後，不拿下告示牌及排行榜的第一名，在加拿大、西及英等地也皆冠曲，Bobby Vee自此成了的歌手。於歌的Carole King和Gerry Goffin的夫妻，是他1960的《Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow》後的第2首冠曲。
翻唱此曲的有Bobby Vinton (1968)，其版本「序曲」拿掉了，而只得第33名。另The Beatles在1962Decca唱片公司的唱，其中就包含有此曲，由George Harrison主唱。Harrison的老婆Pattie Boyd後嫁了好友Eric Clapton，後此曲被意指成Harrison要Clapton好好地照他的Baby---Pattie Boyd，而序根本不符，硬掰趣味巧合。
