此曲英歌手兼歌者Cat Stevens於1965所作，由於只想成一位歌曲作家，故只此曲成「示」以促。後以以30英磅了在英展的美魂女歌手P.P. Anorld。Anorld於1967首行，在英曲排行榜得第18名，也成了她第一首的曲。之後，Cat Stevens也唱自己的版本，收在他的第二《New Master》中。但Stevens一直未首歌作曲行，因他得Anorld的版本已此曲定了。

首歌後翻唱而成曲，知名的版本：1973- Keith Hampshire ( 加拿大 )、1977-Rod Stewart ( 英 ) 以及2003-Sheryl Crow ( 美 ) 。而其中Stewart和Crow的版本最後三行的歌省略掉了，或是想者有不同的感吧！有趣的是，包含Cat Stevens的原唱，各有粉，都是最佳的版本，只不知其中是否掺了有籍情？我人是喜Stewart的版本。

「一朝被蛇咬，十年怕井。」此曲的是男子第一次分手被方的很重，以致不敢再意入情。而歌中的位老兄好，至少著再去，有些人在感情上受後再也回不了。唉 ~！
