1966/07，Bob Dylan在住家附近摩托生意外受，休期他的The Hawks ( 後更名The Band ) 了大量的歌曲，此首《You Ain't Goin' Nowhere》即其中之一，由於歌一直未敲定 ( 之後改了版 )，一直拖到1971才正式行。
不，美The Byrds先於1968行此曲，除了因和Dylan是同家唱片公司，有先到「出版」；另在1965，因改翻唱Dylan的《Mr. Tambourine Man》，得排行榜的冠而名大噪，想再翻唱也是因「食髓知味」。但一次的成不理想，只得到第排行榜第74名。1989，The Byrds的吉他手兼主唱Roger McGuinn友Chris Hillman同Nitty Gritty Dirty又重此曲，曲成大耀，得排行榜第6名。管有Nitty Gritty Dirty的，但此良名次的是於二人。

此曲的第一版歌中，有好些句子是非常即和荒的。好1967的第2版有做了些修正，除了明知道在等待明天新娘的到，其他的也有些超，像是到「安椅」上 ( are we gonna fly, Down in the easy chair )，以及不知跟「成吉思汗」又有何 ( Now Genghis Khan, he could not keep )？而此版也被出作翻唱者的版本。1971，Dylan又修改了歌，其中由於The Byrds的Roger McGuinn原「Pick up your money, pack up your tent」唱成了「Pack up your money, pick up your tent」，Dylan此表了他的嘲弄，在接的歌前加了McGuinn的名字 --- McGuinn/You ain't goin' nowhere。而McGuinn也在1989的版本同的位置上加了Dylan作回敬。

Bob Dylan出道，Joan Baez已是「民皇后」，除了提Dylan，人也交往一子，看Dylan不喜Baez。每次Baez翻唱Dylan的歌曲，感仍充深深的意，而未能打得到寰，真是替她感。此1968的版本，歌中的「bride」改成了「man」。
