此曲美Steve Miller Band於1973行的《The Joker》中的同名曲，次年(1974)初打了美告示牌排行榜，攻下了冠座，另在澳洲、加拿大及荷，也都位於前20名。未料到的是，16年後的1990，在英因一支Levi's牛仔的告，引用此曲作背景音，竟此曲又站上了英及的排行榜冠。
此曲最歌者感到困惑的，就是歌中「pompatus of love」的意思了，一般pompatus是nonce word ( 在某情境下所造的字 )，而Steve Miller也是一首1953的Doo-Wop歌曲《The Letter》中的。而在2002的《洛杉》，一篇名「In The Secret Country」的文章提到，在「牛津英文字典」中有pompatus字存在，意思是「to act with pomp and splendor」，而「pompatus of love」的意思，或也可成「浮的」？
另在歌中出的像是「Space Cowboy」、「Gangster of Love」、「Mourice」，都是Steve Miller其他歌曲的歌名，而在1973的《Enter Mourice》的一首，也曾唱出「The pompatus of love」。於「I'm the Midnight toker」，toke的俚是指吸一口或吸入一次毒品，在此的意思是「我是午夜的大麻吸食者 ( 在午夜是不想被人知道 )。也有此曲的Toker字引用自1970的歌曲《One Toke Over The Line》。
此曲另一特殊是在唱完第三句歌後的「滑音」吉它，的人印象深刻。有音板主：「首歌是自的渣男，想涉世未深的少女上床，但整首起你得渣男不可恨反而可。……。」或是吧！有些人泡妞喜自己的「不良」先坦白出，遇上可接受、「母死」的那就吧！
