1987，U2行了一《The Joshua Tree》，不本身得多家排行榜的冠，也得了1988葛美最佳年度和最佳合唱。而中另行的曲《With or Without You》及此首《I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For》亦打美告示牌排行榜，登上冠座，而也是U2在美唯二的首冠曲。
此曲的背景是「美歌曲」生了趣，此的合作人推了一把，的主唱Bono，何不向「福音歌曲」的方向思考行？歌看，是一首找心的示或是了找的歌曲。而Bono在接受石，其首歌是 - an anthem of doubt more than faith. ( 疑惑的多於信仰？)。意思或是，每遇到挫折都再生疑惑，真的知道自己要追的是什？
此曲U2相具代表性的歌曲之一。石此曲在最佳500首歌曲中列名第93。英三人The Chimes於1990翻唱，成也不差，得英排行榜第6名。以下另美女歌手Cher在拉斯加斯巡演的版本，也相的有看。
