John "Jay" Traynor曾美The Mystics 的主唱，後於1960自，於大校演唱被掘，再通名作人Leiber and Stoller的唱而，原本作人欲取名Binky Jones and the Americans，但Traynor的持，最後只使用家族的Jay，而成了Jay and the Americans。

1962，Jay and the Americans行了《She Cried》，同名的主打歌在告示牌榜到了第5名，也是的首支曲。之後翻唱此曲的和歌手也不少，像是女子The Shangri-Las 《He Cried》( 1966 / #65 )、男子The Letterman ( 1970 / #6 on the AC charts )，歌手有Del Shannon、P.J. Proby等等。

好不常，Jay and the Americans接下的首曲均成不佳，Traynor因而。Traynor倒不打，但少了Jay，名又如何？此，有The Empires的吉他手Marty Sanders加入，也了同的David Black，在David Black同意用Jay Black的名字後，就由他接替Traynor的位置，是第二位的Jay。

在Jay Black任主唱的期，是Jay and the Americans最光的期，推出了首知名的曲：《Come a Little Bit Closer》( 1964 / #3 )、《Cara Mia》( 1965 / #4 ) 以及1969翻唱The Drifters的《This Magic Moment》，此曲然只到排行榜第6名，得美唱片工 ( RIAA ) 售超百的金唱片。

好景也不，Jay and the Americans在1973分裂，各奔前程，只除了Jay Black使用此名，和其他不同的音人一起合作演唱。2006，Jay Black因申破，他所有的名---Jay and the Americans被托管人以10美元了之一的Sandy Deanne，位老也因此再聚合，又另外招募了一位音相似的主唱，恰巧位老兄的也是Jay。所以，位John "Jay" Reincke也成了的第三位Jay。
