此美歌手Tony Joe White於1968所推出自自唱的歌曲，成相不，在告示牌排行榜到第8名。後，王Elvis Presley在1970翻唱此曲，除了也喜演唱王歌曲的White感到莫大的光 ( 偶像竟翻唱自己的歌 )，也使得此曲更加的流行。
此曲被列在「沼 ( swamp rock )」，述的是美南方村一女孩和她家庭的生活，也是Tony Joe White自己的生活，而Annie只是某些真人物的代表。Polk 是地在林或田野中可摘得的一植物，就是我所的「野菜」，但若是不懂得料理 ( 好像有是要先多煮次 )，有中毒命的危，只有人才吃此Polk Salad吧！也他的心理上深感自卑。

也我想起5、60年代的台生活，其中像是「地瓜」，一般家庭差的，常切成混著一起煮食，吃多了然之排斥。而曾何，「地瓜」「地瓜稀」成了髦的「健康食物」，以前下到都是的「地瓜」「仔菜 ( A菜 ) ← ，年就是吃的菜」，也成了餐桌上的美食佳。只是，不知年吃怕「地瓜」的人，今是吃是不吃？是不喜吃吧！呵呵。
2018，Tony Joe White於家中突因心病世，享年75。
