此曲美村歌手兼曲作家Jerry Jeff Walker自自唱，收於其1968此曲同名的中。其，「Mr. Bojangles」是美黑人踢踏舞者Bill Robinson的，由於他在30年代曾出在多部影中而知名，而之後成了有望街舞者的代名。

Jerry Jeff Walker了到玩音，由家州北部旅行到了良，某日因酒醉一定要一位年女子同「第一眼看方所感的才是最真的」，然是行於失 ( 造成性？)，因而了牢房。Jerry Jeff Walker他作此曲的感，自同牢房一位以在街跳舞生的老黑人友，所告於他生活上的一些不拉不拉。( 但，良的看守所是有黑、白人分隔的，故即使有Jerry Jeff Walker所的位友，也是位白人。)

翻唱此曲的知名歌手多，包含有Bob Dylan、John Denver、Neil Diamond、Robbie Williams等等，而美村Nitty Gritty Dirt Band於1971的翻唱版，在告示牌排行榜得第9名的佳，也成最知名的歌曲之一。
