出生於1937年的美村歌手Merle Haggard，8父，又因家庭疏於管教而不良少年，曾度出入少年感化所。後再因劫罪於1957入昆丁 ( San Quentin Prison ) 服刑。1958，知名村歌手Johnny Cash至中演唱，此也Merle Haggard定重拾吉他 ( 他於1956曾有公客串演唱的 )，之後除了在中友演唱，1960出後也正式向其音之路。

Merle Haggard早期的歌曲，多的主都「」有。首《Sing Me Back Home》的是一位「rabbit」的友，因越而致一名警死亡。後被判死刑，被典官往要行途他的牢房，要求再他唱一首歌，他能回起在江湖前那段美好的家庭光，然後就真的要上路「回老家」了。

此曲Merle Haggard於1967行的同名主打歌，也是他第三首的村冠曲。以下所另位村歌手Don Williams的版本，之前也曾介Don Williams的《I Recall a Gypsy Woman》
