A quiet, old, hunchbacked lady sat across from Jane at the dinner table. She wore a pair of jade earrings and jade bracelet. Jane stared at them, “She looks so familiar. She reminds me of my mother. My mom has the same kind of jades.”
In the class, using her skinny fingers, rustling the pages of the book, the lady seemed to be listening very carefully. Sometimes she would turn her head to look around.
Jane took the last picture of the old lady and her family during the closing ceremony.

When she went out tip-toeing,Jane closed the door leaving the silence behind her. It was dark outside of the cabin, and people were still sleeping. Jane saw a dog sitting by the cabin. Raising its body, wagging its tail, the dog walked close to her. “Hi! You must have been here the whole night.” Jane touched its head. No wonder she heard its barking that night. The dog guided her.
The moon hung in the sky, big and bright. Among the straight, tall pine trees, the dog led Jane to a hill.The dog’s leg was wrapped in bandages. Blood still oozed through the bandages.“What a royal guard!” It looked so brave, dependable, and responsible.
